Zack lunged forward, popping Demon Strike and bringing his sword down in a massive overhead swing. The blade tore through the whelp’s neck, separating its head from its body.

These things weren’t hard to kill, which Zack reckoned he was thankful for. It wasn’t every day NPC enemies managed to get the drop on him. Had they been more dangerous, who knows what might have happened.

Amy and Betsy had slain the remaining two whelps, bringing the death toll to six enemies. Breathing heavily, scanning the darkness around them, they searched for more. Blood dripped from the walls, red guts spread across the ground like coiled snakes. After close to a minute, they relaxed.

“Damn, that felt good,” Amy said, making a flourish with her wand before slipping it back into her inventory. Her moves reminded Zack of some of those B grade Western movies he’d watched as a child.

Zack raced over to Missy, who was covered in blood from her injuries. Her HP was almost fully restored, but she looked a little shaky. He hugged her tight, feeling her blood on his hands. “I’m sorry I landed on top of you and all that.”

Missy wiped the blood from her face. “My music heals all, so don’t worry about me. I’m not some wilting violet who cries at breaking a nail, I’m a warrior like you.” She pulled back from him, looking him over, her eyes widening.

Before she could say anything, Betsy came over and grabbed his arm. “You’re hurt too!”

Zack touched the wound on the back of his neck, feeling a little woozy all of a sudden. Odd.

He brought up his character information in his field of view and stared. Under his character panel, there was a strange icon. He touched it with his mind.
