With pirate-esque and nautical decor this no-frills pub-restaurant does the job, but is better-suited to families rather than an intimate dining setting. Still, its seafront position is tempting enough (it was once a Victorian bath house) with the no-fuss menu including baguettes, burgers, lasagne and cottage pie. £

Seeing as you’re so close to France, it’s worth dining at this French restaurant, although you’ll need to be quick – they only seat 20 guests on Fri, Sat and Sun evenings. Their five-course set menu includes butternut squash velouté, cod loin and thyme butter chicken, with a vegetarian equivalent menu too. Plus there’s an extensive wine menu and drinks list, so you can really unwind with an evening here. £££
