All three missiles needed to be covered, so the six of us soldiers divided up to form the customary three groups of two people to cover all the missiles. I and another person were assigned to the first of the three missiles.

The camouflage netting was very large indeed; it was approximately forty-five by sixty-six feet rectangular. One net was made out of three sections put together and will cover one EL/missile. The mesh size in the netting was approximately two inches square and had long cloth/rudder camo strips woven and sewn into the mesh. The camo strips were treated with special infrared and thermal signature scattering chemicals. The purpose of these impregnated chemicals were to destroy and disperse the outline or heat image of the vehicle and equipment under the netting.

After I helped to emplace the missiles and set up tents, I was assigned to one of the many parameter security positions. Once there, I was posted to guard the secure area and its gate. All Pershing firing batteries had six rifle squads of infantry soldiers known as 11 Bravo MOS attached to them to supply most of their security needs. But here again, the personnel shortages were of major concern! They too were spread way too thin.
