Chapter 13
Bluefire: Case#1
Tom had made a phone call before he left the next day to talk to Samuel. His neighbor down the road was a police detective himself and told Tom what to ask and how to look for certain signs of the truth. Tom had been a counselor at a boyâs school and had talked to many who needed help. Tom was by no means a police officer, nor did he want to be.
Tom arrived at Samuelâs house and knocked on the door. Samuel lived in a nice neighborhood where many were blue-collar or worked in industrial companies. The inside of the house was nicely kept, with the furniture well-worn with use. Samuelâs dad was at work, and his mother had left years earlier. Samuel himself was a brown-haired, blue-eyed, medium-built guy who had graduated school by taking the GED. He lived with his dad because it cost less than regular housing, and he helped his dad pay for groceries and utility bills. Since his dad had not remarried once his mother had left, it was just the two of them now.
Samuel seemed like a decent person even though he was seventeen and already out of high school. Tom did not agree with dealing drugs and told Samuel that it was risky to do it for a living. Samuel knew and felt the same. The problem was that he started two years ago and could not get away from the head dealer guy. Samuel seemed to be more into computers and IT information than drug dealing. He had asked the head dealer guy if he could quit but was turned down multiple times. Tom had spoken to numerous young guys during the years he was a counselor who had told him the truth about their situation.
Tom asked Samuel what happened the night he picked up Caleb at the party. Samuel told him he picked up Caleb at the party to give him a ride home. He had stopped at a location to deliver a package to the head drug guy. It was money and the rest of the drugs he had not sold. Samuel was going to stand his ground and refuse to sell drugs anymore. Caleb had offered to take the package up there for him and had grabbed the package and walked off before Samuel could stop him. Samuel wasnât sure what happened next, but he had been told by another guy who was there at the time Caleb was there that it had got rough. He had told him that Kevin, who was the name of the head drug guy, started yelling and screaming at Caleb. His thug guy named Ray beat Caleb up as a message to him. Kevin had looked out the window and saw him sitting there, and he panicked and drove off without Caleb. When he went to find Caleb the next morning, he was nowhere to be found. Samuel had heard from another guy that something in a rug had been put in the back of an SUV.
