Scalability and replicability

It is already apparent in the work that has been carried out that there is great potential for scaling up the Team’s approach to finding innovative and cost-effective ways to change people’s behaviour in order to meet certain environmental, social and economic policy objectives. The Team was initially charged with influencing two major areas of policy and has already successfully applied behavioural insights into the multiple areas discussed above, including organ donation, healthier food, consumer empowerment, tax and the environment. It is planning to extend activity to other areas such as mobile phone theft, smoking, higher education and the red tape challenge (reducing unnecessary regulation and replacing it with more effective alternative mechanisms).

It is useful to explore the conditions under which the Team was set up, which if they apply, may increase the chances of its being replicated successfully elsewhere (Table 26).
