GENERATION TWO TESTING

To meet the challenges outlined above, Allen followed an iterative design process similar to the approach the authors used with LARA. Though he did not run focus groups, Allen did work closely with Sam and Sally, the site coordinator and LARA volunteer discussed throughout this chapter (Sally also participated in the first test session). He also worked closely with two WorkOne end users (both females) and two human resource experts (one male and one female). Since the research methods are already outlined above, the authors provide only an overview of the test two session and its results below.

In keeping with the iterative, participatory design process used for the first test session, the authors began by recruiting participants and getting their feedback on the project’s approach and how they would define success for the CWEST. Next, the authors worked closely with the WorkOne participants to draft the job analysis, cover letter and résumé, and job interview resources.

Next, Jaclyn and Allen posted and tested the resources following the protocols outlined above. Direct comparisons with first test session results could not be made, however, because the authors had revised the CWEST area of the Purdue OWL, the authors were testing different resources, and they were working with different participants. Finally, the authors revised the resources again before posting the final drafts on the Purdue OWL in the Engagement section. The flowchart at figure 4.5 illustrates this process.

As illustrated in figure 4.5, the WorkOne stage of the CWEST added a step in the research process, the quasi-experiment (see the findings section for a fuller discussion).
