At dinner, the three of them sat around the table for the first time. Shira was surprised to find him at home upon her return. But she didn’t blame him, and was simply pleased to see him—and that he seemed to be getting along well with Malin. Together they told Shira about his adventure and the investigation of the artifacts.

“I have an inkling of what’s to come,” Shira said.

“I’m going to take a vacation for the rest of the week,” Olom said.

“And then you’re going to drive up to the tower of hotline 119, climb up, and search the sphere for that spaceship Messenger.”

“You understand me. But I will not climb up from our district, but will travel farther north.”

“Of course,” Shira said. “I’m just a little pissed about one fact.”

“And what’s that?”

“For not inviting us to come along.”

“I didn't want to drag you two into this. It’s illegal to climb a hotline tower to the top, and it’s forbidden to then enter the sphere as well.”

The sphere was considered the bringer of life. Without it, life would not be possible. To enter it would be to defile it.

“I’d still like to come,” Shira said. “But I’ll stay here for your sake. If all three of us went, it might cause more of a stir. You alone have a better chance of going unnoticed.”

“Thank you, Shira.”

“You mustn’t get caught,” Malin said. “They’d put you in detention for years, and then we’d have to wait for you.”

“I try my best,” Olom said.
