They could go no farther. The road into Ketchum was completely impassable. This is where they would leave Garner. He was on the laptop looking for a message, for the final time. Now he would go in there on foot.
He'd completed about 1,200 miles of a trek into the worst super volcanic eruption in human history. But not quite.
Someone had to be alive in there.
Garner began putting his things together; he'd moved into the backseat for that purpose. He had winter gear on, a knitted hat, gloves, the HazMat mask, and his expedition-style backpack. He had only a little food and water. The hospital was a few miles.
He was glad he didn't have Tanya.
Using Lance and Laura's satellite connection, he'd intercepted one final message. It read like a response to his last message.
Received. So appreciative. We don't have time. Food and water are gone. Please please please help! You're so kind!!
