After an even second round, I took charge in the third.

To be three points ahead was encouraging, but I went into the third round needing to be more aggressive for the second half of the fight, because I’m best when I let my combinations go off in fast three- or four-punch attacks. That was the key to winning the bout.

My speed and footwork have always been huge factors for me in everything I do, whether it is football, GAA or boxing, and when I am able to let my combinations go off in those quick attacking moves, or when I am feinting well, and all these different things come together, I am able to make it difficult for anyone to beat me. I knew that although this was my first fight of the competition, it was going to put one of us on the Olympic podium and earn a bronze medal for either Bray or Liverpool.
