Sunrises

If you’re a morning person, or simply willing to be up before dawn in order to shoot the scene you want to capture, you can benefit from the day’s early light.

Time Is Fleeting

One of the differences between photographing sunrises and sunsets is that the optimal period of time for a sunrise is shorter. Once the sun is above the horizon, there is very little time to take advantage of its rays. If you set your alarm to wake up in time to capture the sunrise, you can often be back in bed within an hour! Seriously speaking, though, the best images will be gained during civil twilight, which starts when the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon (refer back to chapter 1 for more on this). Once the sun rises above the horizon, you only have about a minute to capture your images before the colors in the sky lose their tone and vibrancy.
