Luther Systematized for Teaching the Faith
It is not true, argued Johannes Corvinus, that Luther wrote in a confusing and disorderly fashion, with everything mixed together. Yet Corvinus was also convinced that the only way to demonstrate that the Reformerâs writings did set forth Christian teaching in an orderly fashion was to present them in topical form as loci communes or in the form of a corpus doctrinae. With this in view Corvinus compiled the first topical organization of the whole of Lutherâs thought in words culled from a wide range of his published writings.[1]
