Chapter 15

Taylianah Lukai- December 4th; 1:05 p.m.

“He did what!” Kanani and I exclaimed at the same time.

“He went off and beat Dani to a pulp,” Kilah said when she called us on three way after she came back from church.

“Why?” I asked.

“He caught me and Dani,” she said nervously.

“Doing what?” I asked.

“Well, he didn’t really catch us but I think he heard us,” she paused, “having sex.”

“What!” Kanani said.

“Wait, you and Daniel did the do while your brother was in the other room,” I asked. “And you didn’t think he would hear?”

“I mean, I thought he was sleep,” she said. It sounded like she was on the verge of crying.

“Well, one question, Kilah,” Kanani said, “did he at least wear protection while ya’ll were getting it in.” I had to laugh because of the way she said it.

The line was quiet for what felt like 5 minutes before Kilah answered really fast, “No, but he said that if you did it with someone that you loved and if it was your first time, you didn’t need it.”

“Wow,” was all I could say, “No offense, but you were stupid out yo mind for believing that.”

“Kilah, he should have still worn it,” Kanani said. “You can still get pregers even if it’s your first time.”

“And just because he says he loves you doesn’t stop the fact that you could get pregnant at 16, or even worse,” I say. “You could even get a sexually transmitted disease.”

“I know, I know,” Kilah said. “But you guys, I’m not pregnant and I doubt that Dani had any diseases. Now can we drop the subject, please?”

“Yeah, sure,” Kanani says irritated and I laugh.

“Seriously you guys,” Kilah says.

“Anyway, let’s pick another topic,” I blurted.

“Okay, so Christmas is coming in a few weeks,” Kanani says. “What’s on you guys Christmas lists?”

“Oooh, I want the iPad 2,” I say.

“I wouldn’t mind getting that either,” Kanani says. “What about you Kilah?”

“I got the iPad 2 for as a bday present yesterday,” she says. “But I would love if my dad upgraded my phone. I want a Droid Razor.”

“Oh, yeah, I saw the commercial for that,” I say and put the phone on speaker so I can go and get the bottle of Minute Maid that I left by my computer.

“Yeah, I would take any phone right about now,” Kanani says. “My phone has been acting up for a while now.”

“Is that why it takes you forever and a day to reply to my texts,” Kilah laughs.

“Yeah,” Kanani states, “it’s like, if somebody sends me a message at 9 in the morning, I wouldn’t actually get it ‘til like 10:30 or something.”

“Daaannngggg!” Kilah and I laugh. I almost spit out my juice.

“I know right,” she says and laughs.

“You really need to get yo telly fixed,” I say.

“I know, I know,” she says and laughs.

“Well, other than phones and iPads,” I say, “what else is on ya’ll list?”

“Oooh, I saw some purple and yellow Nikes at Finish Line,” Kanani says. “Imma make sure I cop those.
