Take Me to Your Leader

It can be a heartwarming experience for everyone when children rise to the occasion and step in as leaders at crucial times.

Sometimes it’s easier for a child to be a spontaneous leader than it is to play a formalized leadership role. To encourage leadership skills, we have line leaders and class presidents and everything in between. This can be a good experience for kids, and it can also make them think about the kinds of leaders they want to be and the types of decisions they should make.

To practice some of these decision-making skills, let your students put themselves in the position of being “Class Leaders.” Divide the children into groups of three to five and tell them, “Your group has been elected as ‘Class Leaders,’ which is like being the rulers of the class. You can do whatever you want. Which decision would display the best leadership qualities for your group to have?”
