Chapter 12
I decided to head to my house. The urge to go home with Thanos was undeniable, but I didnât want to go there just yet. I'd barely acknowledged that I want more from him. If I started leaning on him too heavily, I would be jumping the gun. The last thing I wanted was to fall into the pattern I had with Dathan, where I relied on him to give my life meaning.
I was a grown woman with an entire life that I loved. My bookstore was everything to me and all mine. My kids loved me and were doing great so far in college. And my best friends were a huge part of my existence that I would never give up.
Balance was the key to happiness. It was hard to juggle a marriage, kids, establish a career, and make time for friends while maintaining a house when youâre young and just starting out.
I might have more wrinkles than Iâd like and fifteen extra pounds, but I had a pretty steady balance. My bookstore was established, my kids were on their own for the most part, and I had plenty of time for my friends and a relationship.
The roadblock to complete bliss for my friends and me was the Dark One and her antics. We could handle the occasional demon or rogue shifter in town. But having numerous demons plus Tainted witches hunting the population and killing them to fuel their Dark spells was too damn much.
My heart started racing as Thanos pulled into my driveway. The garage was no longer a burned-out mess. It was also not a one-vehicle stall anymore. Sebastian had overseen the construction and had had them add more room to the space, which I appreciated. I didnât have enough storage area.
âAre you sure you want to do this on your own?â
I smiled big to hide my trepidation. âPositive. This is my home. The wards are still active, so I know I wonât encounter anyone in there. And I have no vehicle they can plant a bomb inside.â
Thanos chuckled. âNo, but you have a stunning smile. Iâm a phone call away should you need anything. Iâll be back first thing in the morning to take you to your bookstore.â
âYou donât have to do that. I can walk from here. Itâs not that far.â
He got out and held his hand out to me when I barely had one leg out of the vehicle. âI know you can walk, but Iâd like to help. Iâm not trying to take over your life or diminish your ability to do it all by yourself. I just want to be around you, and if all you have time for is to allow me to take you to and from work, Iâll take it.â
âWe never talked about us after we had sex. Is it awkward for you now?â
Thanos put his hands on my hips and tugged me closer to him. âI know you didnât want to move that fast. And, I
