Chapter Thirty-Two

“P.S. I Love You” – The Beatles

Rick ran into Prentice Hall, more excited than usual, about his date with Cindy. He had planned every detail of the promised birthday dinner and, based on Bob’s insider knowledge about music, he had decided on Eddy’s Stag Bar and Restaurant. Good food and light jazz to easy pop, and it would be a chance to learn about her this time.

Within minutes of his call to her room the elevator doors parted and out walked the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He could feel his jaw drop as his gaze swept from head to toe, then back to her lovely face. He would never tire of looking at it, especially first thing every morning. He knew he was acting like a schoolboy on his first date, so he gave himself a mental shake and walked over to greet her with a hug and a kiss. A very long kiss.

She pushed back and stared at him for a moment, “You okay?”

“I’m better than okay. Why?”

“You were looking at me weird . . . I thought maybe I had forgotten to put something on.”

Rick nodded toward a Ford Galaxy 500 across Midway Drive in front of Dunbar Hall. He took her hand, and they dashed across the street where Rick opened the door for her and waited until she was seated before he closed it behind her. Rick ran around the front, opened the door and got in.

“You’re quite the gentlemen, aren’t you?” she commented as he started the car and then pulled out toward East Main Street.

Cindy had slid next to Rick in the front seat which he took as an invitation to put his arm around her. The ten year old car was a little hard to steer with one hand but Rick wasn’t going to let her see him struggle.

“Gentleman? Hardly. If you knew what I was thinking when I saw you walk out of the elevator tonight, you’d know better.” He managed to get the car to turn to the left on East Main Street.

“What were you thinking?” she teased as if she had a dirty thought of her own.

“Seriously? I am too much of a gentleman to actually say it out loud.”

She thought about his words for a block or two on the way downtown before she whispered, “I’m too much of a lady to do what you were thinking in the lobby.” She laid her head on his shoulder and sighed.

Rick was on top of
