*****

Thick globs of snow fell from the black above as Aiden traipsed up the path he and Egown walked a day before. The windows of the large man’s house were burning bright as always. As he got near the front gate, Carion started to bark and growl, and soon after, the front door sprung open with Egown holding the beast back by its leash.

“Who is out there! Speak up!” he shouted.

“It’s me! Aiden.”

Egown’s eyes grew wide at the figure that was walking towards him, for Aiden was not aware of how much ice had formed across his avatar making it look more like a walking pillar of ice than any semblance of a human being.

Aiden stood in the garden and shook himself, making most of the snow fall to the ground, and revealing once again his cloak. “I’m kind of frozen. Literally.”

Egown checked his dog from continuing its aggressive stance, then looked back at Aiden. “We thought you were dead! That the soldiers had killed you. That you were not what you say you are.”

“I got the box—” he could see Egown’s expression start to soften, “—but…I lost it, I was attacked by some trolls…”

“The trolls have it?”

“They did, and then it was taken by what I think you call a Cheleron.”

Egown sighed. “The Arch will not be pleased. But it seems you got closer to getting the box than many others have. For that you deserve the warmth of my fire. Come inside.”

Aiden marched forward into the small house. The youngest girl was already eating at the table and Flori was putting out some more stew for herself and Egown. She went to offer some to Aiden then thought better of it.

Aiden sat down near the fire. He realized the game was just making his brain feel that he was frozen through, and it wasn’t real, but he was still glad to feel the heat emanating from the burning wood.

Egown took his own bowl and sat opposite him. “So, tell me what happened.”

Aiden managed to compress the events into about twenty minutes, leaving out the few hours back at the bunker and the more graphic elements of how the trolls died.

The big man nodded at various intervals, hardly eating his stew during the retelling.

Finally, he sat back and stroked his mostly gray beard. “So, the box is just a box? There is nothing inside it?”

“Think of it as a magic box, that can transform into other things.”

“Like you,” said Syno.

“Eat your supper,” said Egown to her, frowning.

Aiden smiled. “Like me and the other Chelerons.”

“Is the box a Cheleron?” said Flori.

She’s smart.

“It’s one form they can take, but I don’t know if the boxes are warlocks or maybe they will become at some point…”

Could that be it?

“Are you talking to me or just talking into the cosmos?” said Zeus.

To you. Could the Chelerons be trying to make other RPs?

Zeus started to reply, but was interrupted by Carion barking at the door, which started rattling due to the force of whoever was knocking against it.
