MAIBOCK
Literally “May bock,” maibock is a transition beer that bridges the gap between the strong, malty lagers of winter and the lighter, more sessionable light lagers and weißbiers of summer. It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, with a lightness of body and color that belies the strong malty lager that lies within.
Sometimes called helles bock, the only thing hell (light) about maibock is its pale golden hue. Otherwise, this is a bock that can easily approach doppelbock territory in terms of strength. It’s the perfect après-ski libation for late spring, when a bright sun remains in the sky a little longer each day, even as winter’s icy grip remains firmly in control.
