"Oh ... basically we're pretty certain now that what people have been told for years about the Big Bang origin of the universe is all wrong. It never hap¬pened. There isn't enough mass for gravity to have formed galaxies in the fifteen billion years since the universe is supposed to have formed, and there are larger-scale structures out there that go back way, way further than that. My line of work involves compres¬sion of an initially diffuse, primordial plasma medium into extended filaments by electromagnetic forces, which are trillions of times stronger than gravity. "It's basically an optimistic view, because it leads to a picture of an evolving universe, not one that's de¬generating to a heat death. In fact, just the opposite."
