While much emphasis is given to resistance training for building muscle and strength, proper nutrition or eating has often been relegated to the level of nearly trivial. After all, some so-called experts say, a calorie is a calorie and for as long as you have calories to burn for training, you’re ok. But that isn’t true. Unlike a rose that can still smell as sweet by any other name, a calorie by any other macronutrient type isn’t as sweet…or healthy.

Here, we’ll take a deeper look at the 3 main calorie types or macronutrients: carbohydrates, protein and fat.
