Sit in a kneeling or cross-legged position, with the hips higher than the knees and a tall neutral spine.

Allow the diaphragm to relax after a passive exhalation and before a normal inhalation.

Forcefully exhale out the nose by contracting the core and pulling the belly in toward the spine. You should hear an audible “puff” sound through the nose as you exhale.

Relax the abdominal muscles for a passive, noncontrolled inhalation through the nose. The inhalation should be silent.

Start at a rate you can sustain for at least 1 minute, aiming for an exhalation every 1 to 2 seconds.
