Chapter Twenty-Two
Savannah
When I wake up, Robertâs face is the first thing I see. Not just Robert, but my husband. Iâm still thinking through the ramifications of us being married now.
I had thought this whole thing was going to be simple. I would marry him and the two of us would go back to a different med school and then, maybe in a year, weâd get divorced â but, now⦠Now, I have no idea what Iâm going to do.
Because Iâve realized that I like waking up next to him and that just feels weird and confusing. I never wanted any of my feelings to get caught up in this, but it looks like I wasnât so lucky.
I get out of bed, and Robert is still asleep. I take one of his shirts out of his pack, as well as a pair of underwear, and put them on.
I take my phone out and put in a delivery for some clothes. I donât want to have to wear the same thing for a third day and, this way, they should be here in a couple of hours.
I sit at the breakfast table and decide that maybe I should order us some room service. The two of us totally skipped breakfast and I am now massively hungry. Robert will probably be just as hungry as I am by the time he wakes up. So, I pick up the phone and order us some food.
While I wait for the food to arrive, Robert still hasnât woken up. He really can sleep like a log.
I go back to staring at him. He looks a lot less serious when heâs asleep â maybe calmer would be a better word. His face is definitely lined with his worries. I can see him thinking about them when heâs conscious, but, right now, he must be blissfully unaware.
I hear a knock on the door and the signature call-out: âRoom service.â
I get up from the table and go to the door. I double check that Robert is all covered up â I donât want to force some unfortunate hotel employee to see his naked body, even if he is gorgeous.
When Iâve made sure that my husband is not exposed, I open the door, and our food is carted in. The concierge helps me set the table and I give him a nice tip before saying goodbye.
I sit back down at the breakfast table and inhale the scent of the food I ordered. I got a typical breakfast of bacon and eggs and waffles with some other stuff on the side.
As Iâm pouring myself a glass of orange juice, I hear some shuffling over by the bed. I turn to see that Robert has finally woken up. He sits up in the bed and looks over at me.
âGood morning,â I say to him.
Itâs clear heâs still a little sleepy, so I give him time to wake all the way up and adjust.
âDid you order breakfast?â he asks.
I nod.
He gets out of bed, still naked.
