Nikki never understood the adage, Work first, play later. She never held with eating your vegetables first and your dessert last. If you knew something good was waiting for you, why not jump straight to it? Delayed gratification wasnât all it was cracked up to be.
And thatâs exactly what she was thinking when she pulled Jettâs mouth down on hers. Like she would during a winning rack of pool, Nikki was already four steps ahead to where theyâd both be naked, doing naughty things in his bed. The problem was he wasnât moving very fast, never had. Quick, fast, now, Jettâbefore they both realized what a bad idea this was.
She groaned and rubbed herself against him. Her breasts ached, and she wanted his mouth there, just for a moment, to ease the pain, and then he could go back to kissing her.
But he wasnât getting the hint. Lord, had he always been this obtuse? Seemed like theyâd been down this road before. Well, she knew exactly how to speed things up. Nikki reached down and started to pull her shirt off. She got as far as baring her midriff when Jett ran his hands down her arms and wound his fingers with hers.
As gestures went it was sweet, and maybe a little bit endearing. But she didnât want sweet.
He pinned her arms by her sides. His thumbs drew circles across her palms, all the while never easing up on his kiss. Nikki had been kissed by other guys besides Jett. Thereâd been that shy freshman in her dorm, the obsessive junior professor, but none of them had been like Jett. With his tongue in her mouth and his teeth nipping at her lips, his kiss was raw, a prelude to what she hoped they were going to do in bed.
She wanted to let him know she was a sure thing, no need to convince. No problem here. And she was going to tell him, yep, just as soon as she found her breath and a smidge of intelligence to form a sentence.
Then just as quickly, he backed off, eased up on the intensity a bit. No! Not yet. Instead of bites and licks, his mouth turned to tender brushes on the corner of her lips, eyelids, cheekbones. Oh, he was still kissing her all right, but now there was no urgency behind it, as if heâd decided he had a whole night or a whole lifetime.
He nipped at the corners of her mouth, drew a line with his tongue across her bottom lip. She made to capture his mouth, but he anticipated her move and nuzzled her neck instead. She lost all pretense of control, which was a good thing since her knees were only holding their own because his body was pushed up against hers, arms nailed to her sides. âJett . . .â
His tongue found the hollows of her ear and wicked chills flushed her skin.
âJett . . .â There was a plea that hadnât been in her voice before.
