Chapter 7

Silvia

I wake to the sound of birds chirping and water murmuring. For a moment, I have the impression that I’m inside a forest next to a spring, but when I open my eyes, I’m inside my bedroom. I take a moment to register the sounds of water, and then I smile. Yes. They’re from the streams in my pond. I close my eyes to listen to the wonderful sounds more carefully, remembering what Hunter told me while trying to discern the sound of the streams hitting pebbles from the sound of them merging into the pond.

I can’t wait to rise and step into the yard to admire the product of Hunter and his crew’s hard work. I still can’t believe my eyes when I see the magical sight in front of me. For two weeks, I’ve witnessed the transformation of the tedious pool into a beautiful aquatic garden.

The workers drained the pool, broke the concrete, and filled in layers of dirt in the bottom. They then added rocks and gravel and filled the pond with water. They altered the shape of the pond as well, from a rectangle into an irregular oval. In fact, with all the rocks lining the pond's edges in such an artful way, it’s hard to believe that it used to be a pool.

Hunter carefully planned the layers of rocks and pebbles and the locations of the streams to create the waterfall’s cascading effect and soothing sounds.

The workers made stairs along the sides of the pond and planted plants on different levels according to their depth zones. Water lilies are on the bottom, deep level, because their stems are long and their leaves float on water, while blue flag irises are on the top, shallow level. The reeds and rushes are in the middle.

When Hunter explained all the facts to me, I was in awe. Honestly, I didn’t expect so much science behind the making of the pond. My feelings for the young man also deepen, not to mention my lust. But to my annoyance, the young man seems to have forgotten what happened between us that day. He’s been behaving like a different person, less friendly, and overly professional. I don’t know what to make of it. Is he putting distance between us because of professionalism or because he doesn’t want anything to do with me anymore?

The later possibility isn’t likely to me me because he was so passionate that day at his office. My lady bits clench just recalling the details. Although I haven’t expected more than a fling with the young man, I’ve missed him like crazy and haven’t forgotten any single detail of our steamy moments. I still recall how delicious his firm lips tasted and how wonderful his hardness felt inside me.

I conclude that Hunter’s coldness has to be because of his professionalism. Since the project it’s over, I have a good reason to invite him to my house to celebrate and rekindle the fire between us. There’s also another reason I want to cook dinner for Hunter.
