Chapter 15
-Flint-
Flint walked Brenna all the way to her house. They kissed one last time before she reluctantly went inside.
The temperature had tanked, but he couldnât even feel the cold with all of the fire running through his veins.
Heâd done it. Heâd kissed Brenna Simmons. And sheâd kissed him back. Sheâd asked him to walk her all the way home and sheâd slid her arm around his waist so they could cuddle as they walked.
What was the world coming to?
Whatever it was, Flint liked it. The cadence of his shoes clomping on the sidewalk sped up. He couldnât keep the rising bubble of happiness and exhilaration inside. He broke into a jog, then a full-on run. It felt as if he was flying, and when he passed the high school, he let out a whoop so loud that several doors opened as he ran by.
So many women only saw him as a football player, or a rich guy who could take care of them and give them prestige. Not Brenna. She might make more money than he did, and for once, Flint didnât care.
His mind teemed with possibilities. She lived in New York and he was in Seattle. There werenât two more opposite cities in the country. However, his contract was up after this season; maybe he could get traded. Or maybe she would be willing to move law firms. Or maybe they would have to make a long-distance relationship work. He could see her a lot in the off-season, and he would find a way to see her every week, even if it was just for a few hours.
The town had fallen behind him, and Flint slowed his sprint to a jog and then a walk.
Brenna Simmons. He couldnât help the grin that tugged at his lips each time he thought of her, and he felt the heat on his neck each time he thought about kissing her. Part of him wanted to run right back to her house and kiss her again, but he knew to quit while he was ahead. At least for today.
How had he missed her beauty before? How had he ignored her spark? How had he spent so many years trying to outdo her when really, he should have been paying attention in a totally different way?
Flint vowed to make up for lost time, and when he walked up his familyâs driveway, he had an idea for their first date. He noticed almost all of the lights on and was to the front door before he remembered that Chloe and Preston had arrived. While Cody was the best at sniffing out secrets, Chloe wasnât far behind. He would have to play it cool if he wanted any sort of peace and quiet over the next few days.
Laughter floated through the door, and Flint smiled. He knew a trap when he saw one. He quietly went to the bushes and pulled out a water pistol that was hidden there. He shook it, happy it wasnât frozen, and held it behind him.
