This stage is a very pleasant ride through the vineyards and wine villages of Margrave’s Land to Freiburg and along the River Dreisam to Kirchzarten.

Steinenstadt–Neuenburg (8.7km)

The two routes meet up again just outside Steinenstadt, where Rheintalstraße meets the L134. By Gasthaus zum Salmen in Steinenstadt, turn right on Rheinthalstraße and follow it out of the village, to the hiking signpost Hohlenbach by the L134 country road. Stay on the right-hand side of the big road and continue north, towards Neuenburg.

At the next big junction cross the main road again to the left and after about 100m turn right on Steinweg, past fields and farms. At the T-junction turn left and follow the track around to the right past a campsite. Soon after, the bike route passes through an industrial estate of Neuenburg. Cross the junction (Freudenbergstraße) and at the following junction turn right, on Fischerstraße. At the end turn left on Sandroggenstraße, up to Baselerstraße and turn left to the roundabout by Gasthaus Krone.

Alternatively, you can continue along the Rhine to Neuenburg/Hafen and follow the bike route(Mülhauser Straße) to Neuenburg, but there is a lot of traffic at the busy motorway access junction (Am Wurloch) between Neuenburg and the Rhine.
