Too often, we skim through biblical genealogies on to the next passage. With a fleeting glance, we skip the less engaging and impossible-to-pronounce names looking for more poignant stories. Yet, genealogies arenât something to be avoided but celebrated.
Genealogies remind us of Godâs loving commitment to humanity and His plan for redemption. Through these lists of names, weâre reminded of both where we came from and where weâre headed. And they remind us that the place in time God has us living is important. Itâs not an accident, but part of a greater story God is writing, in which we all play a role.
