P OLITICAL W ISDOM
W isdom is the main theme of the biblical book of James. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, and it shall be given him” (James 1:5).
James instructs elected officials and others to seek God’s wisdom when they face extraordinary challenges. The Bible tells us that wisdom from God is pure wisdom.
Sometimes the advice we receive from political operatives is determined by self-serving political interests. James suggests that individuals who yield to the temptations that cause them to compromise their oath of office are like waves of the sea, tossing to and fro. “A double minded man thinks he will receive from the Lord, but is unstable in all ways” (James 1:8).
The book of James provides us with advice that will lead to success and peace of mind through the storms and temptations the political process brings our way. It is well worth the read.
“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he is tried he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12).
When elected officials reject the sound advice and wisdom of good counselors, they start to travel down the road that will end their political careers. These are the people who allow their lusts and desires for power, money, and in many cases, sex to overpower them. Once ensnared by this sinful web of deceit he or she becomes blind to the reality that the single wrong act he or she commits becomes the weapon that eventually brings him or her to total ruin.
The way to ruin comes slowly, quietly and decisively! They never see it coming! And when it comes they simply go into denial and believe they will escape the terror the sinful onslaught will bring.
From the beginning of time public officials have been tempted to commit sinful and unlawful acts. Individuals who yield to sinful temptations progress to submission, and after submission, comes destruction.
History reveals that the will of many elected officials to resist temptations that violate their oath of office weakens as their desire to grab that “pot of gold” (be it power, money or sex) gets stronger. In due course the wages of their ill-gotten gain are paid in full through the total destruction of their entire life.
“Then the wrongful act hath conceived and brings forth sin; and sin when it is finished, brings forth death” (James 1:15).

P ROVERBS 1
“To know wisdom and instruction; to discern sayings of understanding; to receive instruction in wise behavior, righteousness, justice and equity; to give prudence to the naïve; to the youth knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear and increase in learning; a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel; to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, hear your father’s instruction and do not forsake
