SHOPPING IN CORFU TOWN

Corfu town has myriad tiny shops, and half of them seem to be selling jewelry. Designer boutiques, shoe shops, and accessory stores can be found in every nook and cranny of the town. The major tourist shopping streets are North Theotoki (designer boutiques, jewelry) and Spiridou (local souvenirs); locals shop along the less-flashy Voulados (clothes, shoes). The local fish-and-vegetable market is open Monday through Saturday from very early in the morning until about noon. For traditional goods, head for the narrow streets of the Campiello, where olive wood, lace, jewelry, and wineshops abound. For perishable products such as liqueurs and candies, you may do better checking out the supermarkets than buying in the Old Town. Most of the shops listed here are in the Campiello and are open May to October, from 8 AM until late (whenever the last tourist leaves); they’re generally closed September to April. Stores in outlying shopping areas tend to close Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoons at 2:30 PM, and all day Sunday.
