I don’t know what to make of it, Windy. Fouti Courze-Smyther was at once charming and diffident. He seemed far less interested in talking about Jelvo U. or Alvin than in asking questions about Gerard. I began to feel pretty silly talking about myself as a third person I didn’t know very well.

However, Courze-Smyther’s questions and overall attitude kept any mirth I might have felt well hidden. As courteously and politely as possible, he kept demanding information about me—Gerard—-that as LEranc Awrr I couldn’t give him. In fact, if I had been a neutral observer, I’d have said he was obsessive about Gerard.

That doesn’t make me happy at all, Windy. Given our previous experiences with unwanted attention, I’d have to say that by the time we finished the interview, my suspicions were running at full speed with all sensors on alert. Why in the universe is he so interested in Gerard Manley? There doesn’t seem to be an apparent explanation for it, but I’m not going to take any chances. I contacted DoOty Wier Broomanger, Sheadrov’s senior administrator here, as soon as I left the bruncheon, and we’re going to get together for dinner tomorrow. Maybe she can tell me more about Courze-Smyther that will help explain his interest.

Or maybe not. Maybe I’m just being paranoid. After all, if Courze-Smyther really did have some hidden intent in asking all those questions about me—Gerard, would he have been so obvious about it?

Enough of that.

Sent a message to ShRil and CrRina just to tell them I love them.

Research here is going to be very easy, Windy. Hassintech Library’s access system is completely compatible with your FedStandard programs, so once we get you plugged in and test for any unforseen glitches, we ought to be able to proceed fairly smoothly. Without ShRil here, you’re going to have to make the discrimination on the technical data on our list. In fact, I might just let you run on autosearch for that part of the research while I’m searching the soft sciences. Maybe we can get all this done twice as fast. Then we can get back to ShRil and CrRina. Of course, I’m not in any hurry, but if we can get it all done in the next ten minutes, I’m ready to leave.

And speaking of leaving, I’m headed for the library now to make the rest of the arrangements for the hookup, pay the balance of the research fees, and attend to all those other mundane details. Why can’t you handle it with the library’s computer, Windy? That would certainly be the simplest way. But then, what would you need me for?
