CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Cool Cat Tea

Looking for something refreshing? Our tea will quench your thirst and cool you down when you’re working up a sweat. Or have too many warm kitties snuggling you.

“WHEN I GOT YOUR email, Roy, I thought I was going absolutely insane. Never in my life have I had a marketing firm tell me they can’t take me on because of conflict but then come up with a solution for the conflict. You either really wanted to keep my business or you were bored out of your mind that day.”

Will smiled from across the table at Edwina Powell, the owner of Cat’s Meow Coffee, who was taking a sip from her iced tea. When Roy told Will they were meeting her for lunch today at a little bistro near the Galleria, Will had imagined every reaction under the sun to his email but not laughter or appreciation. The woman’s blue eyes sparkled behind her cat-eyed glasses, and he responded with a humble shrug.

“I can’t take credit for it, Eddie,” Roy said, slapping him on the back. “It was all Will. I just proofed the email and endorsed it.”

Will cleared his throat. “It’s a nonprofit cat rescue. The owners run it as a cat café and sell coffee, pastries, and other great food. They’re currently turning the back of the café into a low-cost veterinary clinic for the area.”

“That is an outstanding setup. I’d love to see it. If you couldn’t tell by my company’s name, I’ve always been a cat person.”

“It’s actually a few doors down from our office, if you would like to follow Will back,” Roy said. “I have to take off straight from here or I would accompany you.”

“Unfortunately, I need to take care of a few things this afternoon, but I will definitely stop by before I head back home.” She held up the portfolio. “And give you my final thoughts on this. Really great stuff.” She pointed to Will, but her attention was on Roy. “Don’t let too many people find out about him or they might swoop in and steal him away.”

Roy clapped Will on the back. “Will’s been with me since he graduated. Loyal to the bone, this one. He’s not going anywhere.”

Will laughed weakly, and while Roy picked up the check, he contemplated what working this account meant for his future. He wanted to create art for clients,
