With two mugs of steaming tea, a scone, and some sort of delicious-looking nut bar on my tray, I made my way to the back corner of the cafe where Blaze had found us a seat. The table was tucked beside two large potted plants, and he was facing away from the main room, but even so, I noticed more than one person take a second glance in his direction. Maybe I’d underestimated his celebrity. I felt bad for suggesting the tea in such a public place, but then again, he hadn’t said no.

“Here we go.” I deposited the tray on the table. “I didn’t even think, Blaze. I forgot that you were trying to keep a low profile.”

“It doesn’t matter.” He shrugged. “As long as I get to spend time with you, I’ll take the chance.”

My face flushed, and my guilt increased. I took a deep breath and prepared myself to give him the explanation he deserved as I took the seat across from him. “Blaze, I—”

“Let me stop you.” He held up a hand. “I just need to say something, if that’s okay?”

I nodded.

“Darla, I’ve already told you that I like you.”

My body reacted instantly to his simple choice of words.

“I don’t think that’s a secret.”

I shook my head slightly, but let him continue.

“And…you like me, too.”

He paused, waiting for a response, so I nodded once.

“So this should be a whole lot easier than it is, don’t you think?”

I opened my mouth to speak but closed it again when he said, “I know about how the pact is supposed to work. The guys explained it to me.”

Oh.

“Which is why I’m so dammed confused.”

“The pact is dumb.”

His lips twitched up into a sexy grin. “I know of at least four men who would disagree with you.”

A sigh slipped from my lips. He wasn’t wrong. There were four couples who were very happily loved up because of that stupid pact. But it was different for them. In every single way. “That’s true,” I said after a moment. “But what you don’t understand is that the pact was different for all of them.”

“Different?” He pulled his mug of tea closer but didn’t take his eyes off me. “How is that?”

“I’m not sure what exactly the guys told you, or even how much of it they even understand.” I paused and took a breath. “Hell, I don’t even know how much I should say about it. But since it impacts me, and you,” I gestured toward him, “I don’t see any point in not telling you.”

I spent the next few minutes giving Blaze my version of why we’d come up with the go for it pact and how it had benefited Abby, Jessie, Britt, and Sandy. He’d already heard that part from the guys, but I was guessing he hadn’t heard about my version. “And then they decided it was my turn,” I finished.

Blaze was quiet as he took a sugar packet, carefully shook it, tore the top off, and poured it into his tea.
