CHAPTER TEN

DREAMS OF BETTER TIMES

Abe scans the entire ship as he now has total access to everything. He uses the ship's external sensors and scans the sector seeing both the T-Challa and rogue Tof and Rooke ships in close pursuit. Abe hastily refocuses his scan internally and sees the crew working feverishly on severing power to the med bay.

For the next hour, Abe works fanatically on the serum that will repress Carla’s X’ena half, allowing her to move on her own, and with Abe’s Mother Doctor Qui Shi help, Abe carefully administers the serum to Carla. Qui Shi possess the complete knowledge of the hybrid transmogvirus within her mind. This information was implanted directly into her mind by the X’ena called Bach, who originally created the transmogvirus. Qui Shi knows exactly how to treat and cure most, if not all possible ailments the Hybrids may encounter over their lifetime.

Qui shi studies the information as Abe continues the data feed to her. She looks up, stating, “Abe this will take a few more hours to work, but you need to know Carla may not be the same person when she wakes. Her confidence will be gone and she will be overly reliant on you.”

Abe confused by this, asks, “That doesn’t make any sense why would she be emotionally different?”

Qui Shi frowns, saying, “She will not have any of her powers, her strength, speed, and endurance, they will all be gone. She will be very lost and confused. Emotionally, she has always relied on her powers to compensate for her fears and doubts and without them.” Qui Shi pauses, and states, “She could revert to the scared child that I met many years ago. Abe there is a possibility that she may not even speak. The trauma she suffered as a child was repressed by her joining with her symbiot and that could now resurface.”

Abe sighs heavily, saying, “Mom, you know that would have been good to know before I did all this. If she’s too terrified to move, I could have just left her in that stasis chamber.”

Suddenly Abe hears several large explosions all around him, as most of the outer bulkheads around the med bay are destroyed. Nevertheless, the force field holds as Abe sees the assault team wearing protective headphones.

Jackson seeing the attack on the holocom yells, “Abe are you alright!?!”

Abe chuckles, saying, “I’m fine Dad, but these idiots may blow the ship up before we get there.”

The strike team now has a clear view of Abe as he smiles at them, taunting the Rooke forces. One of the strike team raises his middle finger towards Abe.

Abe laughs aloud, as he accesses the ship’s life support controls, lowering the temperature to its lowest setting tolerable to the human anatomy. The temperature drops rapidly all around the ship as Abe keeps the temperature in the med bay stable. Abe chuckles as he watches the crew race away. Abe, however, is not content on only freezing the crew. He decides to
