Chapter 5

The next morning, Megan went into full avoidance mode. She left out the back door of her house and grabbed a waiting taxi down the street. Okay, so not an entirely mature way of dealing with everything, but her memory was intact from last night. She wasn’t ready to face Jase yet. What the hell had she been thinking? Damn Kyra and her tequila shots and encouragement. Now Megan had humiliated herself in front of Jase three times. Twice baring her nearly naked body to him. She needed someone to have power of attorney over her dating life to make sure she didn’t do embarrassing things like that anymore.

Once she arrived at work, the morning passed quickly as she and her teams ensured the website was stable. By the time lunch rolled around, she considered her options. She could get her car, go home, and move all her things out to avoid ever having to see Jase again. Except, she had an awful lot of shoes. No way would that be a one day move.

She could pretend the whole thing had never happened and never speak to him. But that was ridiculous, because she fully intended to still gawk at him while he was half naked and doing stuff around his house. Which would make her a stalker or a peeping Tom.

Or she could just talk to him.

Her stomach rolled. Yeah, not her favorite option. But she couldn’t very well avoid Jase for the rest of her life. She checked the time, almost lunch. She called over to the hospital and asked if he was in surgery.

When she found out he wasn’t, she headed out to the hospital. More than once she thought about turning around. Once she even hung a U-turn, but Kyra had called to make sure she was on her way, so Megan had been forced to turn right back around. She couldn’t chicken out of this. All she had to do was apologize, then ask him why he kissed her the other night. He'd answer. She'd get some sort of satisfactory resolution, and she'd leave.

And she could put the whole thing with Jase to bed…er, away.

But what if Kyra was right, and he said he wanted her and always had?

Megan’s heart leapt, but her brain quashed the little joy fest quickly and effectively. Sure, he had wanted to kiss her, but maybe just out of curiosity. He’d almost said as much. Well, she did not need curiosity. No matter how body rocking it was. She needed someone who knew what he wanted.

Once she parked, it was pretty much now or never time. In the five minutes she sat in the car, she came up with all kinds of reasons why she should not be there. Perfectly good reasons why she should go back to her office and forget the things her crazy heart told her was good for her.

Taking ten deep breaths, she prayed the prayer of teenaged girls everywhere. Please let him be busy. Please let him be busy.
