After a bit of a pause while he caught up and realised Horator was not being serious, Marc laughed. âHave you just made that up? Itâs genius.â
âI read it somewhere. But it is still true.â
Most people at the foundry were either hard at their individual tasks or unloading trucks, so Marc and Horator would not be missed if they went to the Timology labs anyway. So, off they went, complete with the engine.
When they arrived at the labs and explained their dilemma, they instantly had a small number of eager and enthusiastic volunteers. Paloma did not mind, as there was very little for them to do anyway. It had been mentioned; maybe some more of them could go to the foundry to see if there was any way in which they could assist. It did not go down well at the time, mainly because these scientists do not do heavy work, they are not used to it, and for the most part, they did not want to get used to it; but taking an unknown species of aircraft engine apart was a different thing altogether. A few of them mentioned they had heard there was work underway to combine traditional engines with new anti- gravity technology in a bid to save on the weight of fuel. Less fuel means more passengers! More passengers mean more money. The anti-gravity element to it would be run from a power pack, which would last for a hundred years or more.
Once the engine had been unloaded, there was nothing for Marc and Horator to do, so they went to have a coffee and chat with Paloma.
âIâm glad you have brought the engine here,â said Paloma âas some were starting to get a bit bored with so little to do.â
âI donât understand,â exclaimed Marc. âI thought with the extra gasses we brought back with the replicators you would be knee deep in testing your portal.â
âNo, no, no. We want to save the gasses until a later date. I have a plan for them. Remember the meeting about Gianna? A later date being when your spacecraft is nearing completion. If we test it now and the tests are a success, then people may well want to go as soon as they could. Do you realise what it might mean to your workforce? If we tested now, how would we keep it a secret? Not everyone is in favour if the time travel, but once it was proven to be viable, who knows, some may change their minds once they can see it works, which would be even worse for you. Iâll enlist Kimber to test it with me. Just the two of us, but not just yet. Do you have any big machines for lifting big slabs of stone?â
âYes, but why?â
âYouâll see, just not for a while. When you get some spare time or drivers, could you get a couple of machines for me, somewhere near the town centre by the park will do? No mad rush, probably take a year or so before you are halfway ready with the craft anyway.
