It was McKay (2003), an article that followed her 2002 book, which first explicitly included locally-appropriate pedagogy on the agenda of EIL research, by stating that “just as the content of EIL materials must be separated from native-speaker models, so too must EIL methodology, by allowing locally appropriate pedagogy to be implemented” (p. 140). The issue of locally-appropriate methodology is now becoming one of the major themes of EIL studies, including successive works by McKay herself (e.g., McKay & Bokhorst-Heng, 2008; McKay & J. Brown, 2016).
