Chapter Nine
Looking at the vision before him, he found his body hardening and lust tempering his anger. Did the woman know what she did to him standing there in that flimsy thing? Her hair hung damp over her shoulder, causing the white material across her breast to stick to a hard nipple. The gown was large, so one shoulder strap hung down her arm. Her bare feet and ankles peeked from under the hem. The swells of her breasts and gentle curve of her hips showed through the thin fabric. She was a hunger in his blood that would not ease and a beauty his eyes never tired of.
His need for her was beyond anything he had ever experienced, and it scared the hell out of him. He must always be in control. Lives depended on him. Every move he made had to be weighted and calculated. Everything in him wanted to pull her into his arms and sate the need to take her with his body, but he would not.
âYou betrayed me,â he whispered, turning from her.
âNae, I did not.â She stepped closer but stopped when he spun around angrily.
âYou left when I told you nae!â
âMy word was not given. If it were, I would not have broken it. I had no plan to leave, but spying Enid in the courtyard, I had to follow.â
âI care not what Enid does. When I give an order, you will follow it.â
âDylan, hear me, please. Your life is at stake. She is plotting against you.â
With anger still burning in his veins, he said. âI will have your word, Rhiannon. Now! You will not leave me.â
Having the gift of reading people, Rhiannon realized there was more behind Dylanâs anger than the desire for her to stay with him. There was an overriding fear. She stretched out her hand to implore him.
âPlease understand there is a task I must finish.â It was evident by the narrowing of his eyes he would not listen to anything she had to say until she gave her word.
âI can only say that I will stay âtil I am called away. The prophecy is to be fulfilled. And when that time comes, I will forewarn you before I go.â
That she should torment him now made his anger increase. He had to put a stop to this power she had over him. He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving hers.
Pushing her back against the wall, he brought his face only inches from hers. His eyes were clinched shut and his breathing came in short pants. âI care not for prophecies, curses, or assassinâs plots. You will stay at my side âtil I tire of you.â
When his eyes opened his intense gaze branded her. His fingers plunged into her hair then to the back of her neck. He helped her lips meet his and kissed her with desperation.
Dylan pulled the warm scent of her in, to fill his mind and quieted his fear. She clung to him, while he plundered her mouth.
