Increased Cravings

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition had published a report in 2007 saying how the ketogenic diet is successful in reducing your cravings. But what is even better is that along with reduced cravings, you are also reducing carbs and calorie intake. Although the reduction in cravings refers to the reduction in overall appetite and not the cravings you have for sugary substances. In the initial days of a keto diet, you will face symptoms of withdrawal because you are cutting off carbs and carbs are the so-called ‘comfort foods.’ You might even feel like reaching for those packets of chips whenever you are a bit stressed. Ingrained dietary habits do not change overnight. You have to build them over time.

But this desire for sugary foods is more of an emotional problem and you have to deal with it like that. You should be too hard on yourself. Be patient and give your taste buds some time to change. Make sure you are taking a sufficient amount of calories, and with time, you will eventually start feeling better. Eat plenty of lean protein, healthy fats, and fiber. You should also include fermented foods that are rich in probiotics.

If you are noticing patterns of emotional eating, then you simply have to break the pattern and prevent it from sabotaging all your efforts. Now that everyone has food everywhere in their house, they do not have to think where the food will come from. So, it is actually very easy to sit and watch Netflix along with your favorite nachos. And when you are eating these processed comfort food, your brain releases dopamine, and you automatically start feeling good. Also, if you truly want to break out of these cycles, you need to address the emotional issues that lie underneath them. If you find some quick fix, it is only as a band-aid, and it will come off after a certain time. Whether it is working on some past trauma from bad relationships or maybe working on your self-esteem, you simply have to do it. Think of it as an investment for your future self and only then can the problem be solved.
