The gate closed with a clang, accompanied by turns of the locks, officially sealing all of the adult males of the town within the fence’s boundaries. Volhein’s men had erected this fence around a house that had taken fire damage, but was mostly intact, plus it had been repaired partially in the initial wave of aid.

Now it was their prison.

Throughout the next few hours, Criver met up with each of the men, seeing who had survived to be imprisoned, and who hadn’t. Some of the missing made him cringe, as he knew they had families here. Obadiah Stone was there, his arm still bandaged up, but many of the men of his “tribe” were not. Criver had seen Ramirez and Robinson fall. He was shocked how many more hadn’t made it.
