But it was a face designed for mystery, difficult to read.

Christy rubbed her eyes. Twenty-nine years old and dead.

She was about to turn off the microfiche machine when she noticed something at the bottom of the obituary, a parenthetical reference to another part of the newspaper: (See story, C 6).

LOCAL WOMAN'S SUICIDE

Police were called early yesterday morning to the home of publisher Zachary McNair, 333 Underwood Drive, Bristol, because of the apparent suicide of his wife, Anthea. Mr. McNair discovered his wife's body in the bathroom, where the deceased took her own life.

Police are treating the affair as a suicide, although Mrs. McNair left no note or letter. According to her husband, she had not been depressed lately, nor did she have a history of psychiatric illness.

Zachary McNair is a successful New York City publisher.
