If the dancer’s costume has a flowing skirt, you can use this to help add the appearance of motion to the image. Counting the dancer into the pose as they flip the skirt of the costume will help with the appearance of motion. When trying this, paying attention to the hand position is important. Remind your dancer that their hands need to remain relaxed and appear to be moving with the skirt.

The Image Is Worth the Effort

Trust is important when trying images that are more complicated and take a few more tries to capture. Younger dancers may feel as if they are doing something wrong when all that is happening is the two of you are not in sync. Explain that it takes a little time to understand a dancer’s rhythm and that the final image will be worth the effort. After a few tries, you can usually feel the dancer’s timing and the resulting image will be dynamic.
