The Hurricane is a cocktail that uses a variety of sweets. This famous drink's origins are hazy — like a lot of cocktail history — but it was Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans that popularized the drink. Like many Tropical drinks, it's gotten a bad rap thanks to premixed syrups and artificial ingredients. Find a quality passion fruit puree and grenadine, or make your own.
Adding a dash or two of bitters to your Hurricane can temper some of the sweetness. In his version, Dale “King Cocktail” DeGroff uses Galliano, a light, herbal Italian liqueur.
