Stepping out of the restaurant, Tala felt the cold drizzling rain on her face, the smell of the wet concrete in the air. She quickly ducked into the backseat of Vaughnâs J.D. Bradley, Vaughn sliding in after her.
As the car pulled into traffic, he slipped his arm behind her, pulling her closely, and although she felt her body stiffen, she let herself lean into him.
Without preamble, he pressed his lips to her neck, sending a chill down her spine. She turned her face to him, her mouth finding his. He tasted like wine and red meat, and he slipped his arms around her, sliding his hands into her hair.
When she pulled back, she saw an eagerness flash in his eyes, and she swallowed hard, her mouth going dry.
The corner of his mouth pulled into a smirk, then he leaned in and pressed his lips against her neck again. He made his way up to her earlobe, then to her lips, and she closed her eyes, sliding her hand down his arm, cold and damp from the rain.
âCome to my pod,â he said breathlessly between kisses.
Tala felt her stomach drop, her heart pounding hard and fast. She ran her fingers along his smooth jaw, her thumb lingering on the dimple in his cheek. âItâs been a long day,â she whispered in a hushed breath. âBut Iâve had a lovely evening,â she said as she pressed her lips lightly against his.
He sighed, pulling his fingers through her long hair, letting them skim down her back. âThatâs fine,â he said crossly after a minute. âI have things I should work on anyway.â He pulled back from her, and she welcomed the space between them.
The car pulled up to her building, Vaughn not masking the disappointment on his face, and he leaned in for another kiss.
âWeâll talk soon,â he said while she opened the door.
She pursed her lips and smiled. The cold rain was falling steadily now, and after she slipped from the car, she hurried to her doors, glancing over her shoulder once she reached cover. She watched in relief as his car drove away.
