Truthfully, she didn’t care if he wanted to play trailer park politics. It was none of her concern. But he was always two faced and she didn’t want to turn into some kind of pawn. She needed more information on what this was all about before she brought it up with the sheriff. But she was making that call either way. It might be the last chance she got.

“That guy’s a jerk,” Robin said as she climbed down from the back of the truck. Mason nodded and resumed playing rock-paper-scissors with his sister. “Are we leaving now?”

“In about twenty minutes.” Tessa looked to the tree line of Thomas’s property where the motorhome was parked.

“Do you still get to make the call?” Robin asked anxiously.

“Oh, I’m making that call.” Tessa nodded. “But can you do me one more favor and keep the kids here away from the house and out of the yard? Here’s the keys if you need them.” She tossed the chain, already heading toward the fence.

“Okay.” Robin caught the keys from the air. “Where are you going now?”

“I’ll be right back.” Tessa watched the RV for any sign that Charlie was there as she walked. “I need to have a quick chat with an old friend.”
