Figure 6.1 Two Dimensions of Post-Chineseness.

The following discussion will rely on the oral history interviews of senior scholars of China and Chinese Studies in the Philippines to gather different intellectual paths that reflect identity strategies of various types pertaining to Chineseness. The concept of Chineseness is no longer analytically productive because it mainly emphasizes difference and is therefore socially impractical. Post-Chineseness balances its obsession with the deconstruction of the unified Chinese identity by reconnecting discursively differentiated populations toward socially as well as strategically proper relationality that is nevertheless embedded in no definitive destiny or scope.
