Chapter Eight

Madison snuggled under the covers, her dream so vivid she swore she could smell and hear the bacon sizzling. In fact, she could hear Brady talking to someone. What a nice feeling. If only it were real. Her eyes opened and she stared at the pillow next to her. There was the telltale sign of the indentation from someone sleeping next to her. She sat up, inhaled heartily, and sure enough, bacon.

She climbed out of bed, started toward the door, stopped. Running around naked in the throes of passion was one thing. Totally different in the cold light of morning. Looking around, she saw the belt of her robe sticking out from the pile of clothes she’d thrown on the chair the night before. Grabbing it and pulling the housecoat on, she followed the heavenly smell of breakfast. She couldn’t remember the last time someone had fixed her a meal.

Brady turned and grinned when she walked in. Saying goodbye to whoever he’d been talking to, he fit the cell back in his pocket. “Hey, Sunny, how are you doing this morning?”

Madison wrinkled her brows. Sunny? “Smells good,” was all she said. She’d never been a morning person.

“Sit down, and I’ll dish you up a plate. Do you have plans today?”

“No.” Madison sat in the chair he had pulled out, closed her eyes and reveled in the luxury of being pampered. She could really get used to it. He was probably like this with all his women.

“You do now. After we eat, I’ll run home, shower, and change. I’ll be back. I have a surprise for you.”

“What?”

“It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you. Now eat up, Sunny.”

Madison had to ask. “Sunny?”

“Everyone has a nickname for you. Since we’re going to be dating, I thought I’d better have one, too. I can’t call you Mad. That’s Kennedy’s name for you, and I’m sure as hell not going to call you Maddy, like Charles. So, Sunny it is.” Brady went back to the stove and dished himself up a plate, joined her at the table. “If that’s all right with you.”

“If you don’t mind, I’d prefer Madison. The way it rolls off your tongue delights me. Besides, I’ve never been fond of either Mad or Maddy.” She shrugged. “What can I say? I like my name. Would it hurt your feelings to just call me that?”

“Hell no. Okay, nix Sunny. Madison it is. Though you remind me of sunflowers, so Sunny sort of fits. However, whatever me lady wishes.” His Irish brogue was a little off, but charming nonetheless.

“Thanks.” Madison placed a bite of bacon into her mouth and tasted the salty rich flavor. She couldn’t help the small groan of pleasure. She opened her eyes to find Brady watching her with an indulgent grin. “This is delicious. Where did you learn to cook like this?”

“Dealla and I lived together after our parents passed. Neither one of us knew how to cook. Mom wouldn’t let anyone in her kitchen. It was either learn or starve.
