1. An Aristotelian view of marketing and its contribution to human flourishing (eudaimonia)

Aristotle introduced a distinction between “wealth usage” (economics) and “wealth acquisition” (chrematistic) (Politics, henceforth Pltcs: 1253b). Both are related to each other as the “end” and “means.” Chrematistics is subordinated to economics because wealth acquisition is just a means for wealth usage for a good life. The ethical account of both wealth creation and wealth usage will depend on how they serve human flourishing (eudaimonia). We now explore the consequences of this distinction with respect to marketing.
