Gruit \'grü t\: A combination of ingredients used for flavoring and bittering ale prior to the sixteenth century. This old-fashioned mixture of herbs was applied before the widespread use of hops. Some of the ingredients included in a gruit mixture were sweet gale, ground ivy, horehound, juniper berries, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Gruit ales were eventually phased out, but in recent years a handful of craft breweries have introduced modern versions.

Gueuze \'goōz\: A Belgian-style lambic produced by combining younger lambics. The fermentable sugars in the lambics allow a second fermentation to occur. Gueuze have citrus, acidic, and musty aromas with a very sour, acidic, and musty taste to match.
