Chapter Thirteen

Present - Shellie

Something is going on. The club hasn’t stopped for the last hour and an uneasy feeling settles deep in my stomach. I need to get home before anything happens here.

Checking through my bag once more, I make sure I have everything I came with and zip it up.

I came and said my last goodbye to John and I’ve spoken with Alannah for many hours. I have nothing left to offer her regarding her parents and my time here. They have their fight and I have my life back home.

Loud, urgent voices fill the air and from what I can see out of the window, Lost Souls are running towards the gate. Cas and Sparky leave the bar and follow their brothers to see what the commotion is about and a fear I haven’t felt in a long time resurfaces and I hope no one dies here today.

Men are pulling out their guns and pointing to something or someone I can’t see and I breathe a little easier knowing there are a lot of men between this house and the threat at the gate.

“You should come away from the window, if it kicks off you’ll be safer at the back of the house.”

Alannah sounds so easy and carefree about it all and reminds me of her mother. Rayna was always the one to pull the women in line and urge them to have faith in the men.

I’m just about to turn away when I see a path clear for Cas and Sparky and I glimpse the car everyone is worried about.

Time stops as does my heart and I run out of the house against Alannah’s protests and run for the gate. Pushing my way through the men standing as a human barrier, I struggle think of something other than someone’s gun going off and me being too late.

“Don’t shoot,” I scream, “please, don’t shoot.”

Sparky is telling people to lower their guns but they’re not listening to him.

I manage to get to the car without a shot being fired and John stands with his hands up, wondering what the fuck he just drove into.

“Who the fuck are you?” Cas demands.

Standing in front of John, I say loud enough for everyone to hear he isn’t a threat to them, “He’s my son. Tell your men to lower their guns, please,” I beg.

Cas refuses to move and Sparky whispers in his ear. His face gives nothing away to what he hears but he does put his hand in the air and tells everyone to stand down.

“You caught us at a bad time, please forgive my cautious brothers,” Cas smiles, politely, stepping closer to us, “I’m Cas, and this is Sparky,” he adds, holding his hand out.

John takes it and a firm shake is exchanged before Lost Souls go back to their business.

“John Disnack,” my son offers.

“We should take this inside, yeah?” Sparky says, looking up and down the main road.

“Drive over to the house,” Cas tells John, pointing where.

I wait for him to get back in his car and walk over with Cas and Sparky.
