Both knees are flexed in an “athletic” position. The hands are at the proper grip angles. They are separated to show you that they aren’t moving by themselves. You could cheat if you want, but the drill won’t be doing you much good. Your shoulder connection moves the hands.

The hands are being pushed by the triangle and do not move on their own.

However, the flexed left knee does move quietly in toward the center of the stance as the hands extend back down the target line away from the ball.

When your hands reach the stationary right knee, the wrists hinge as they continue to rise to three-quarter position.
