"What a bitch," Dr. Emrich said once Nephilim was gone, and he had pressed some keys on the device mounted on his wrist implant.

Finwick, who was delighted about how Nephilim had handled the situation and was now staring at the door dreamingly, flinched. "Um...what?"

Emrich turned around toward him, his face red and his small eyes glowing with anger. Once again, Finwick realized what an ugly man the chief scientist was. Ugly Elf appeared still a too flattering nickname for him, he reminded Finwick more of a nasty goblin.

"Didn't you notice how she played us?" The Doctor was outraged. "She's exactly like her boss. Arrogant, malicious, and she thinks she's better than us! In truth, she and her monstrous kind wouldn't exist if it wasn't for us. Maybe it would be better that way...We opened Pandora's Box, and now there's no closing it. They'll be our end one day, I'm telling you."

"If you dislike them so much, may I ask why you decided to work with them?" Finwick asked carefully. Obviously, the goblin was crazy. He had no idea what he was talking about.

Emrich slowly calmed down. He sighed. "Because we need them. Without them, the other two corporations would crush us. Sometimes you need to fight fire with fire."

"I understand," Finwick said. He wasn't sure why Emrich was telling him all this. Maybe he was so outraged that he needed to talk to someone, and he was the only one available.

"But if you play with fire, it's crucial to keep it under control constantly. And this unit is flawed, therefore uncontrollable. You can't possibly know how quickly this can become dangerous," Dr. Emrich continued, "I can't exactly tell what it is, it would require a deep analysis of her brain. But we clearly got some unusual readings today. Of course, it's not enough to approach Metatron and ask for further examinations, especially in her case. Damn bitch knew very well that something was wrong, that's why she forced me to end the session. Dr. Mendez was right, euthanasia would have been the best option for her from the beginning. She contains many valuable parts we could use in other ways. By vivisecting her brain and taking her implants apart, we would surely have all answers we need."

Finwick's heart almost stopped for a moment when he heard the words coming out of the ugly goblin's mouth. Euthanasia? Vivisection? On Nephilim? He had to hold himself back not to jump Emrich and strangle his thin neck. How did he even dare talk like that?

The scientist had returned to his console and was oblivious of the feelings raging in his assistant.

"What stopped you?" Finwick asked with clenched teeth after a few seconds.

Emrich shrugged. "Metatron, of course. You should've seen how he jumped us for only mentioning the idea. I almost thought he would send us to the euthanasia chamber instead. He is completely obsessed with that unit. Always was."

Finwick was relieved hearing that. If Metatron protected Nephilim, no one would ever dare touch her.
